Can I return a book from another library into an Owens book drop?

I have a book from the Findlay Public Library that I want to return.  Can I put it in the Owens Library bookdrops?

Answer

Easy enough question, right?  Unfortunately, the answer requires a couple of "ifs".

If the book is owned by either Owens Community College library (regardless of if you are affiliated with Owens CC), then yes.

If you checked the book out at either Owens Community College library (you requested it from SearchOhio/OhioLINK and picked it up at Owens CC), then yes.

If neither of the above statements is true, then yes, you may still return a book owned by an Ohio library to an Owens CC library, but we strongly recommend against it.  In such cases, we will still attempt to return the book to the library that owns it, but note it typically takes 3-5 days to return the book to the owning library.  You will not be credited with returning the item until the library that owns it receives it back.  Finally, be advised that, while rather rare, items do sometimes get lost in transit.  The Owens Community College libraries are not responsible for any late fees on non-Owens items.
